With the popularity and ease of use of search engines, I am just wondering if people are still using web directories to help them find the things that they need. In my opinion, the search engines are getting smarter and more powerful and whatever information you might need, you can easily find it.
But I guess there are still people who prefer using directories because all of the items or sites there are categorized. All they need to do is choose the category and find the site they are looking for in there. However, I will only do that if I couldn’t find what I’m looking for by using the search engines.

I am also asking me the same. I tried to attract visitors from blog directories putting all these little bages on my blog (which in total made the page load about 1 second slower). I made it to good rankings in several directories (calculated by blog traffic), however I received next to no visitors and after one month I decided to remove them. I see these directories get visitors (from alexa rankings), however I don’t understand what people are looking for there. Mobile phone ring tones? Free downloads? The only blog directory I am sometimes getting visitors from is blogcatalog.
